Do you have a puppy, and want to know when is the best time to give him a dog treat? There are all kinds of people who say that using treats is one of the best ways to train a puppy to do many things, such as sitting, heeling, fetching and more. Many of these people only give their dogs treats when they are training them, then cut way back on the treats once the dog is trained, usually giving them to the dogs to reinforce the training when it is needed. Other people just can’t resist those gorgeous puppy dog eyes, and give their dogs treats every time they beg for them.
Using Dog Treats For Training
Most dogs are generally fairly easy to train, as it seems that dogs are very eager to please their people, so they will do what their people want them to do. For some dogs though, it is not so easy, and they require a bit of an incentive to do the things we are trying to train them to do. This is when it is time to use a dog treat. If you provide your dog with a treat to reward them every time they do something you command them to, they are soon going to look forward to performing that action over and over again, because they know they are going to get a treat every time. If you ever watch dog agility shows on television, you have probably noticed the handlers feeding the dogs treats after everything they do. This is because they have trained the dogs to do tricks for treats.
Using Dog Treats Just Because
Once you have trained your dog, you certainly don’t want to stop giving him treats for being good. You can give your dog a treat any time you want to. Of course, it is probably not a good idea to fill them full of treats just before they are supposed to be fed a meal, and it is important to limit treats to healthy ones that are good for dogs. DO NOT give dogs chocolate as a treat. It can KILL them. Either give them treats that you buy in pet or department stores, or treats that you make yourself from healthy, fresh ingredients.
You love your dog, and when you want to show him how much you love him, you give him treats. When you train him, you use treats as a reward. There are all kinds of reasons to give a dog treat. Just make sure that you are not giving your pet so many dog treats that he becomes overweight, which can cause him to be unhealthy and even lead to premature death.
